It was awards but the taxes were paid  on it as well as luggage fees. Am I covered?

With Amex it definitely doesn't work. Don't know about Chase.

The claim is basically that you had to spend money buying new stuff while your baggage was delayed, so it doesn't matter when you'll file the claim. You'll not get the check anyhow before a few weeks, so there's no rush.

He has to show reciepts that he bought the stuff during the time period that his luggage was lost, no?
