i know the lakewood grocery thread has kind of gone dark, but i am utterly exhausted from the rip off prices for meat in this town. You pay through the nose for utter crap ( i kid you not when I say that my cousin found and bloodied band-aid in a pack of chicken bottoms that she opened from one of the establishments here in town that will go nameless..) I found that the best prices were in Shoprite R.I.P. Which store is overall the best value for meat today? I wish there would be someone from Brooklyn that would start delivery... Overall what is the deal with the prices?? It seems like there is a fair amont of competition. Shouldn't the market automatically adjust? I would love to hear a good theory!

In a fair market, over time a competitive grocery store would enter the market.
Alas, if the rumors are true, the owners willing to open a grocery with competitive prices are getting stifled by beis din to the detriment of everyone on behalf of a few.

also there is enough existing competition already out there to keep the market rationale. Are they all in cahoots?

there definitely is a sense of distrust/ self hate in town that I dont believe exists to such a degree in any other frum city in the U.S. I find it both upsetting and intriguing.
