2 readers have emailed me that they got 30,000 AMEX MR points after signing up for the AMEX Premier Rewards Gold Charge Card and spending $1,000.

It's only supposed to be 15,000 points

Has this happened to anyone else?

A few friends got invitations in the mail for 50K bonus points for this card. A shame I didnt get one yet....

I want to get a good card... just not from citi or amex. I dont think they will approve me. any ideas? I am looking for a high credit limit. currently i am at around 12,000 with all my personal cards. another 13,000 on business cards...

I had wanted to open a starwood account and just received the Premier Rewards Gold offer for 50K points. Is it a no brainer to go for the PRG and get the 50K points? Is it a better card? I do see that it's $175 per year vs. $45 per year after the first year. Can I get the points and then cancel before the year is up? Any thoughts?

no reason you shouldn't be able to cancel before the year is up. (although, if it's your only MR card, you'll lose the points. you'll need to transfer them out to airlines before you cancel OR open amex blue (no annual fee) to hold the points.

in addition to all other uses, they can be transferred out to airlines. (1:1 on many) (not as many as SPG and without the 25% bonus, but decent nonetheless)

note to both: transferring MR points requires having a amex Gold or higher card.

are MR points as reliabe as SPG points? Meaning cant they just devaluate them instantaniosly like citi thank you points did?

Yes, they are a stable currency IMHO. AMEX has too much good will on the line to pull a cheap shot like what Citi did.

Yes, I signed up for this card about two months ago and I have received 30,000 MR points. When I check it out, it shows me that there is a welcome bonus of 15,000 and another 15,000 with FIRST PURCHASE (i did not spend $1000 yet on the card).
Do you think that I will be able to receive an additional 15,000 bonus points once I spend $1000 in three months?
