IMO it is actually a stupid move, I don't think it will make a difference whether someone babbles off his rights. But if they don't then you are guaranteeing a standoff later on.

I would assume that a college educated student would have that knowledge. Definitely not worth the risk of the repercussions if they don't read him his rights. At best (for us), it will extend his court case a couple years.

Well now that he did murder the boy, there is no reason to assume anymore. Regarding the reading of his rights, it would be dumb to assume otherwise. Anyways, its not like they can't get people to talk after reading them their rights

I don't believe the not reading of the rights is the issue, more likely it's the fact that they want to actually deny him the right to remain silent and to an attorney. Incorrect?
