HT: FT

Citi in NY pulls from either Equifax or Experian or both. YMMV even by the same person.

If you live in NJ or NY, you should freeze your Experian. They will only pull Equifax then. Otherwise, YMMV.

FOR MORE INFO, READ FT'S WIKI - IT IS PHENOMENAL, FT WIKI

Quote from the above mentioned FT WIKI:
For the most part, freezing Experian, or another bureau, will not cause Citi to pull a different bureau. They will almost certainly require you to unfreeze the bureau they wish to pull or deny your application. Some people have been successful providing the PIN but others have not. Mostly, freezing a credit bureau in an attempt to force Citi to pull a different one seems to waste time, money, and effort for little result. But YMMV.

DDF data points (As of 10/2015)
NY- pulls both EQ/EX, can still get instant approval with EX frozen
CA, OH, PA, TX- ONLY EX. Citi will refuse to pull other bureau

Benefits:..
New no forex fees starting Nov.'15

From FT Wiki:"Important exception: If you receive a Platinum World MC which is later converted to a World Elite MC (as indicated on the back of the card), the opening of that card will no longer count for purposes of the 18-month rule. This is true not only for conversions in early 2015, but also for those in more recent months.
Note: It makes no difference when (or whether) you activate the World Elite card. If you have the WE card in hand, then the conversion on Citi's books is already complete. There is nothing magical about activating it.
There are a few reports that some Gold World MC are being converted to Gold World Elite MC and that will no longer count for purposes of the 18-month rule."
UPDATE: As of 02/18/2016 (for applications after 02/09/2016), the W>WE loophole may be dead.

called citi to verify when accounts were opened.
got the dates which should allow me to be eligible
applied for this offer
didnt go through immediately but got text if i have time press 1
also got app ID and number to call

rep said the system approved me for 24,800 but i would need to move some of my available credit from the other accounts which in total is over 100 or 5k without doing anything.
i took the additional 5,000
did spend and received SUB
had an old account formerly the citi amex still active. no movement on AF/retention. downgraded to keep the credit line and bec i just got the new card with same benefits

Would appreciate advice on what to do next.

I last received the bonus on the personal Citi Platinum select over 4 years ago.  In late 2022 I got the bonus on the CitiBusiness version.

I signed up now for the personal again, met the spend, and never got the bonus. Both chat and phone support (escalated) told me that the rule applies across products, even across business/personal products. So they claim my '22 CitiBusiness bonus disqualified me for the personal bonus.

They kept pointing to the disclaimer in the T&Cs for both cards, but I pointed out to them that the disclaimers are subtly different in that the personal one says you can't have another bonus within 48 months for Citi cards, and the business disclaimer says "CitiBusiness". Two different products.

Eventually phone support agreed that was weird and wrote up a report, and sent it for investigation. A few days later I received a short letter denying for the same reason they kept repeating, with no explanation addressing my point.

What do I do next? Let the 75k SUB go and learn my lesson? Some other form of escalation? Thoughts appreciated.

How strictly is the 48 month rule enforced?  Has anybody tried to meet the spend and received the bonus as well despite the 48 month rule

It is enforced. They will approve you and not give the bonus.

Me neither. Is this the best option for racking up some loyalty points without getting too invested in the AA ecosystem?

The terms say free baggage is only on domestic flights.
Have any cardholders been successful getting free baggage on an AA flight to/from Mexico?

Nope and the same for Jamacia.

Travel to / from Canada, Caribbean, Mexico, Central America, and Guyana – 1st checked bag fee is $35 and the 2nd checked bag fee is $45.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

I think 80k might be the best you could hope for, a while back was a special public offer of 75k and that was rare and huge. 80k is solid.

If you shop online a lot, you can use aadvantageshopping to get points and use your normal credit card so that you can get both
