My two cents: If your want to live with Anglo's and an american lifestyle and send your kids to american schools just stay here!

You move to israel, learn the language and befriend the locals in an Israeli community, you wont feel lonely and home sick. It'l take some adjusting but this is the way to do it right.
It's great in theory, but Anglos often need the soft landing when they make aliyah, and if that's what they need to move here, then by all means...

+1, and +1
Not sure which rechavia he's talking about, but definitely not the one in JerusalemAffordable? Might wanna look outside of Jerusalem.
Not sure what your religious affiliation is, but Machal has a very neighborly atmosphere. Almost like living in a bungalow colony. Probably over a dozen DDFers, so DO almost every Friday night (after davening, of course). Only 2-3 shuls in the neighborhood, which I view as a plus, as you basically get to know everyone, unlike Ramat Eshkol where you're just a number. Rent on a 2 bedroom is $1100-1400 range depending on many factors. Many apartments have "Furniture" that you have to buy from previous renters. That can set you back $4-10k, but if you're getting quality stuff, you can likely flip it at a low depreciation rate.

Not everyone enjoys living in a bungalow colony, especially not 12 months a year.

There is often a different mentality between Americans staying for a few years and Americans who made Aliyah.  If you are really planning on making Aliyah then you probably need a dif. Neighborhood than if you're staying for 3-5 years.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Any more comments welcomed.
The reasons for moving to Israel are multi-faceted, and include the desire to gradually shed, rather than simply maintain, the same American lifestyle and mentalilty. I'd have thought is probably an easier process when done with others who are going through the same process (ie anglo olim)
I think my family would greatly benefit from (to quote Drago) the 'soft landing' of spending at least the first year or two in Israel with a good network of anglo olim.
Moving straight into an Israeli community sounds like jumping in at the deep end of a cold pool. I do not wish for myself or my family to feel totally alienated from the get go.
We are still considering living outside Jerusalem because of affordability concerns, but there are many reasons for wanting to live in J'rem, due to resources available there which other communities do not offer.

I'd highly recommend a pilot trip to meet ppl and chk out different areas. I did one 2 years b/f making aliyah, and it was an invaluable experience.

Still have not made Aliyah but it's now back on the cards.
Looking now for recommendations for Chinuch in Yerushelayim, preferably near Rechavia for our 5 year old boy.
We would otherwise keep him in a pre-school here so looking for something equivalent as he's not ready for Cheder and will need at least a year maybe two to be ready for Ivrit only Cheder schooling.
We would prefer a Chabad school, but heard that the main Yeshiva would be very hard.
If there's another thread that discusses chinuch in Yerushelayim I could not find it so any other info would be much appreciated - or I maybe I should start a new topic?
