50,000 points after spending $1,000 in 3 months:
http://www.dansdeals.com/go/marriott1/

Users are reporting that Chase (ask via SM) will agree to match the 70k offer (or even 80k, apparently) if you spend $3,000.

Once you get the anniversary Category 1-5 certificate, it stays in your account, even if you cancel your card and don't pay the AF.

the marriot card that has 80k bonus points; can you use those points for starwood hotel or does it transfer to starwood?

they transfer to SPG at a 3 to 1 ratio and then you use them as regular spg points

Was there any significant time before you received and/or activated the card? You might say it took an inordinate amount of time to reach you and therefore your bonus period should be extended.

If I have a free anniversary night and it expires August 31
Does that mean I need to stay by that date or can I book a later date as long as I do it before the 31st?

TIA

Is there a reason to keep the maariot card open, even though, way over 5/24 and doubt will be under anytime soon. Is the AF really worth paying? I understand that some cat 5 rooms cost more than $85, but still... what are most people doing these days?

You can sell the cert for around that if you don't want to use it.

I got an offer for 10x Points up to 120K in my first year (so on first $12K of spending) with $85 AF waived first year and free cert on anniversary. Interestingly, after the first 12K will earn 5x on marriott and spg spend (which seems worse than SPG card earning 2x).

How do you think this compares to the current offer of 80Kpoints for 3k spend and paying the annual fee?

I received anniversary certificate in a email. How do you sell it of there's no certificate number?
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

Is there any chance they will remove certificate from my account if I cancel my card?

Got the same email just now, links to this: https://creditcards.chase.com/a1/marriottpremier/120k
If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

Certainly helps the the AF is waived the first year for this offer, but downside is the higher spend.  It still works out to be more points overall, and helps that you have the entire year to spend $12k:

-120k offer will yield 127.5k points (incl AU card) after spending $12k (no $85 AF)

-80k offer will yield 90.5k points (incl AU card) after spending $3k (plus $85), then you could spend $9k on an SPG (for net $12k spend) to get an additional 27k Marriott points for a total of 117.5k points

= difference of 10k Marriott points and $85
