OK, I have the Bonvoy Boundless card, which I got when I was spending a lot of time in hotels for work. Not currently doing that, nor planning on doing it again anytime soon.

Debating downgrading the card to the no-AF version, though it doesn't have the free annual night. I know the annual night is worth a lot, but honestly, I don't even know if/when I'd use it.

Wanted to hear the thoughts of those more experienced in this game than I am.

Two points:
1) you might as well try for a retention offer like I just got here
2) you can try to sell your free night here and if your just looking to break even or make a very small profit, you will probably have takers.

I’m 7 nights short of platinum status Does it make sense to book anywhere cheap nights just to air on the status and will it work even if I don’t actually show up?

if you just book and don't show up, then they will not count towards your status.

though I think there are some people that had success through calling up the hotel and asking them to check in for you.

before throwing away the nights, I would post it on the "Subsidizing Marriot paid stays" thread

I received the following:  "You've Earned an Annual Choice Benefit"  Seems that Spent 50 nights in a Marriott hotel.  I can choose from:

Add five Elite Night Credits to your 2021 total.
Save 40% on a bed from your favorite hotel brand.
Gift Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status to a family member, friend or colleague.
Donate US$100 to WE Charity.
Get five Suite Night Awards™ to redeem for upgrades to suites and premium rooms.

Can someone explain option one?  And how often does option five work, meaning, that an upgrade is actually available?

Thanks.

You would get 5 Elite Night Credits -which can be used to earn the next tier level. So if you needed 15 more nights, you would now only need 10 more.
FWIW, option 5 is the best option IMHO.

Got an interesting Marriott question and not sure how to handle this.

I currently have the Marriott consumer Amex (rolled over from SPG). I don't do a large amount of spending on the card (I do maybe $5k a year). I have Marriott Gold status, and I'm honestly not sure how I keep it each year. The first time I had it was when I had the Amex consumer Platinum which came with SPG Gold. That was over 5 years ago, and I've kept Gold since then. I haven't signed up for another Marriott card since.

I want to now apply for the Marriott Brilliant Amex for the 125k points. But, I'm worried that if I get the Brilliant card and then decide to cancel it (or downgrade) after the card anniversary, it will cause me to lose my current Gold status.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
TIA!

I have had my Bonvoy boundeless for 12 months, I have just received my free anniversary night, I have not yet been charged the yearly fee. If I were to upgrade to the Ritz card: would I lose my anniversary night? Would I benifit by paying the annual fee on the bonvoy so the annual fee from the Ritz kicks in later or would it make no difference?

I will book a vacation home- Villa in California,

Question - I see the rental I'm looking at is available on Marriott website, what benefits do i have by booking with them over any other website like Vrbo.com -

I have an AmEx Bonvoy card.

Have there been any reports of 'incorrectly' getting the sign up bonus on an amex card when received a chase bonus then year before. Or are the systems to well connected?

In the DDMS post about expiration, Dan writes that "note that transferring points and social media points do not count as activity." Does this apply only transferring points out of Marriott or also into Marriott?

It is does not work, does buying a GC with Marriott points work?

Another alternative is to book a reservation for someone else. Is there a consensus about whether Marriot still allows non-account holders to check in?

I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

I do it often. I just call them before to let them know someone else will check in so they add the name to the reservation.

I see this when transferring from Marriot to United, is this standard and I will get the additional bonus miles separately or I’m doing something wrong?

sorry if this Q was asked before; If I'm approved for a card with Elite nights before Dec will the Elite nights be credited to my 2022 count? (to renew Plat. Elite)
