There's definitely a thread for this.
find and merge?

tiruzim for an existing minhag are not sources.

my excerpt was borrowed from that article. may be easier to just post this link, there were some dubious ideas in there which is why I didn't originally http://www.mesora.org/Shlissel.html

The Alim Litrufah this week had an earlier mekor than the Apte Rov.

Here's what I'm thinking... we did the shlissel challah this shabbos because the kids wanted to. To us it's just fun, no deep significance. But we don't really take ANY segulos seriously. In Chabad, segulos (especially food segulos) are in general not taken very seriously. I'm wondering if it's the people who take segulos seriously that care so deeply whether or not the shlissel chalah is a real thing.

Segulos have become a big thing since they started being used as a marketing tool.

Pretty strong language from the Apter Ruv.

For me that's enough.

I stand corrected. I found it online with a chassidishe rebbe in 2007. but definitely gained popularity this round

Haven't seen the source, but apparently someone mentions this in the name of R' Pinchas of Koritz.

Like selling pesicha for neilah? Or geshem? Selling segulos is older than most segulos.

The easter bread to shlissel connection is nonsense, no similarity other than the coincidental timing. I also decorate my shul on shavuos with plants and flowers. We carry lit candles down the aisle to the chuppa. Boys grow out their hair until they turn 3.

Come on. Huge swaths of klal yisroel have minhagim that they don't knw the reason for. Cynics go and find a connection to paganism in order to mock the minhag. Nonsense on both sides- let's not pretend that we know the source of every minhag, but let the cynics not convince you that THEY know the source either

I'm not anti-segula. I'm anti making the suglas the ikur. People sometimes forget that the main point of a segula is to remind us that Hashem is charge and that we should daven to Him. It's not some sort of shortcut that tricks God into giving us free stuff. Don't abandon the ikur and rely solely on the taful

Yeah kind of getting out of hand these days... We're becoming a rediculously superstitious group of people, quite alarming to watch how this " R' yeshayala of kerestir " phenomenon is exploding.. he's apparently the new version of R' shimon bar yochai or wtvr.. thousands of people flying across the world to his kever, full page ads if him wherever you go.. not sure if it's just simple minded people or it's some money making scheme by some marketing group.. but it's very disturbing on many levels.
