Weekday Fedora?

In our local area the boys are very into the hats ( maybe a NY in-town thing) and it is therefore important for a barmitzva boy to feel taken care of. Maybe get Rafi’s opinion, although I believe he may have some ingrained chinuch of experience over things😁

Any good less expensive weekday hats from Amazon or online?

Definitely! The first hat will get ruined quite fast. Let him practice with that. He'll either learn how to take care of it or it will look like he made a few קוליעס within a few months. At that age you don't teach an old dog new tricks.

My BM hat, had a foam pad put in because it was too big. (Store didn't have any smaller.)
1.5 years later, pad came out.
3 years later, hat didn't fit on my head.

Point being, if not for the foam pad, hat would've only lasted for around 2 years or less...

But $170 Borsalino? Which decade are you in?

Better question is does a weekday hat make sense at this point, or just let him use the Borsalino daily until it becomes a weekday hat?

If it's a BM boy. I would be game to get him 2 hats.
     In yeshivah he leaves it somewhere, or gets dirty from breakfast or lunch,  leaves it at shul. Flys off his head while walking. And ect. Hat can get killed and be left without a hat or a dirty hat untill it's cleaned or replaced, simple solution would be to get a 2nd hat as a shabbos hat which will be passed down as a weekday hat after a year 2 or 3.
   Also the feeling for a BM boy to have a special hat for shabbos. And he's looking forward for shabbos to be able to dress with clean fresh clothing, and a nice new shabbos hat.     Well worth it in my opinion to buy a BM boy a weekday hat for 100-150 Range and shabbos for a bit more.  Or similar range.

Cheapest hat from the local store is $190+. Not much less than the borsalino we got in NYC when we were there.

many hat stores now sell a crushable hat( comes with a very small travel case as well so really great for anyone who travels often) which can survive a lot more wear and tear. may be worth looking into

@Dan Pretty sure @mom1000 Still has your Bar Mitzvah hat in the basement that I wore as my weekday Bar Mitzvah hat. Could be a good solution, it builds character

I believe it actually looks like a regular weekday hat but I don't own one myself and cant say anything with certainty.

I see someone in Shul everyday with it. IMHO it looks really amazing, I can't tell at all that it's a foldable hat.

It's incredible. I prefer to wear it over my shabbos hat

I use it every day, take it in my suitcase when traveling

It looks amazing, and it's extremely comfortable/durable.
