I haven't heard of anyone clearing or not clearing. Why not just fly through the West Coast? True, J isn't as nice, but it's only 5 hours instead of 10.

Myself and @ygygold both cleared 2 seats a couple of days before the flight on 2 separate occasions. FWIW, both were Sunday flights.

What risk is there in booking plan B ? If you don't clear you'll just get your miles back.

The risk is getting stuck in Y for a long flight when he could've gone for a different route in premium.

Is it not possible to position yourself on the west coast before shabbos so you can leave on a morning flight Sun am?

Depends on a lot of things, like if you have a free stop on your itinerary.

Question: If I booked this correctly it should say (I Class requested) somewhere in the fare class?

I spent 1 hr on the phone with the rep and the correct number of miles were deducted from my account, but it does not say (I Class requested) on my flight details:

Without I Class Requested it's not right.

Sorry I read it wrong. I have two entries: 1 for X, and it shows I is waitlisted. Is this the same thing, or do I need to call them back (and what would I ask them to change?)

The waitlist part isn't plan B, bec. it won't give you pr1 status.
