I don't get why they are closing Reader. Isn't it a bad move, it ruins the trust people have in Google. For example if they open a dropbox competition (I think they actually did), people won't trust that it's going to be around forever. Even Gmail, you never know, maybe it will die. It ruins the trust people have in the company.
Not a fair comparison as both of those products are freemium based.

Google has become very aggressive because of the flop that is G+. What also angered me is that you can't comment now on Google Play on an app without signing in with G+. So they lost my reviews. Their loss.

First of all, many people don't get that difference. Second of all, even with that difference, it definitely ruins the trust people have in Google. Google used to be a rock solid company, I fear this shows that it's leaders have lost sight of what made it a company that people loved.

You can blame Larry Page for that.

Next google will decide that it's not making enough money from android and instead of starting to charge, they'll just drop it...

At least Android is open source. Being dropped by Google would not mean its demise.

Open Source in name only. IIRC they got pretty bad scores for their open source-ness.

See
digitaltrends.com/mobile/android-isnt-really-open/

There are other articles on the web, though anyone can realize that with all the development done in-house, its not your typical open source software.

The point is that development can be taken up by another company if Google abandons Android.

Exactly. Google gave a public license to the source code of Android to everyone. Even if Google stopped developing it or stopped distributing it for free and started charging, they could only do so for future versions. All previous version legally remain in the public domain and any company can continue to develop or produce or utilize any previous version of Android irregardless of Google.

BTW, Google also discontinued Google SMS.
BDE the great Google!
From now on only profitable products.
That's not the Google we loved!

I've been trying out Feedly, i'm using the "Title only" view and its looks similar to Google reader.

There's also a background app in Chrome that lingers in the background called Feedly mini, and you could click on it when you're on a webpage and add the feed. (optional)

Anyone have any positive or negative experience with Feedly.

Your thoughts.

I've heard feedly as being the most popular replacement. If I don't like the Digg Reader, that's the one I'm going to try.

Looks good. Just tried it out.
My issues are:
1) Reader is much more updated.
2) One of my feeds on Reader says on Feedly that it's that there is no articles in that section which is untrue.

BD"E :'( I'm hoping a reader clone comes out. What I'll miss most is the ability to instantly search all the items in a specific Google Reader folder.

Bump, any GR alternatives with search built in (a la GR - soon to be GR OBM)?
