Demise of Google Reader
« on: March 14, 2013, 07:47:05 AM »

Quote from Google:
Quote
We launched Google Reader in 2005 in an effort to make it easy for people to discover and keep tabs on their favorite websites. While the product has a loyal following, over the years usage has declined. So, on July 1, 2013, we will retire Google Reader. Users and developers interested in RSS alternatives can export their data, including their subscriptions, with Google Takeout over the course of the next four months.
Why on earth would they kill such a useful tool?

Probably because they never monetized it. :-(

I'm going to take another look at feedly. They have said they will replicate the Google Reader APIs so that everything will be seamless.

Never thought Google Reader would dissappear. I use it a couple times every hour. :'(

This is where I keep track of the news! Twitter and Reader were both filling in where the other was lacking.

Tried feedly. Promptly uninstalled. I need one that looks exactly like Reader.

BD"E :'( I'm hoping a reader clone comes out. What I'll miss most is the ability to instantly search all the items in a specific Google Reader folder.

This is terrible news!  :( :(
I am going to try out Fever only because it is the only other RSS service supported by Reeder, which IME, is the best RSS reader for iOS.
I'll let you guys know how it works out.

I tried Reeder for iOS but I think MobileRSS is better...

Try "NetVibes" or "Old Reader" who both have a look similar to Google Reader...
