[Updated With More Changes] Major Changes Are Coming For American Express Benefits! Master Chart Of What’s Being Added And Removed - https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/major-changes-coming-american-express-benefits-master-chart-whats-added-removed/

$300 per item, 1K per card per year. So if you have an SPG card and a PRG card you'll only have 2k of total RP coverage, regardless of how many AUs you have on each card.

If you are unsure if an item qualifies for RP, then instead of asking for opinions here (slightly better than asking medical advice on facebook mind you), PUTPAC and ask the RP reps. You don't need to give your name or card info, just say you have an item or you will be buying an item and the store has a crappy return policy and want to make sure if there is a problem you can return it.

or
Return Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/return This is for when, in the first 3 months, the original seller won't accept a return, and the product is still in new condition.
Purchase Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/purchase This is for when, in the first 3 months, a purchase is lost, stolen, or broken.
Extended Warranty: www.americanexpress.com/warranty This covers only what the original warranty covers and extends it for up to 1 year.

Amex can approve RP claims even after the card is closed/cancelled, though YMMV.

They are asking for proof now that I didn't return something to a physical store. How am I supposed to do that? I already sent them several pictures of the item. Credit card statement would show there is no return, but they are asking for proof from the vendor.
One of the few items I actually bought in a store rather than online.

Is this from a big box retailer like Best Buy? If not and itms a small popshop, you could write up a statement along with their contact info and get that manager/ownerr to sign off saying “____ customer have made this purchase on ___ date. Unfortunately due to our return policy of _____ this item is no longer eligible to be returned, and therefore not in our posession anymore”

Major pain in the ass, but it’s one avenue you can take, besides emailing the manager of said store and using that email as documentation.

Maybe call Amex and ask them what ideas they have in mind for how to provide proof of no return? Would be interesting to hear what they have to say. You would think credit card statements and pictures would be enough. Of course, it's possible you did return the item and the store credited you in some other way, but at some point, you have to take the person's word and not make unreasonable requests!

Right, they couldn't get the information themselves, so they are asking me to do it lol.
Their message was:

We've made several attempts to verify that no returns have been made on the purchase made
on xxxxxx on receipt # xxxx at store #xxxx. Please submit conformation from the
vendor that no returns or credits have been received/given.

Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

After it's returned?

You mean after a return claim, don't you? Or are you really asking about after it's returned. You have had experiences where you actually returned something on a return claim?

I have done it and gotten denied, citing that a return protection claim was done a year prior.

I mean doing extended warranty claim on the same item that you did return protection on. IT was approved? what kind of item was it?

Mine was electronics as well. An AVR with 3 year warranty, in it's 4th year it crashed. Amex covered it. Perhaps it got through because it was so many years after the return claim.

In fact going through my posts on this thread I recall it was also on a closed card, that they couldn't find the charge, etc., that I had to submit further information on, so that probably all helped in them not seeing the return as well.

I thought I had read somewhere else that you could do a warranty claim on a returned item because it was a different department. Therefore I tried the warranty claim. But based on 6girls data point, this doesn't seem to be the case, and I probably just luckily got it through.
