They are a private company, this is not a fee they hide from you before you use their service. It is something they tell you before you book, in a capitalist society you have the right to boycott them. Getting the government involved is so wrong.
The government is here to serve the people that elected them. In this case the government believes there is a substantial interest to protect consumers from deceptive practices.
I personally haven't experienced that. Do you have any examples of specific locations that dont disclose anywhere on the booking page?
July 17-18;@ the St Regis NYC shows on the main page as 877 and once proceeding jumps to 1067.23.
You can read the lawsuit but its pretty clear to anyone that ever made a Hotel booking on many sites, the original price you see is not the final one you'll pay.
The government is obviously trying to get it to look similar to an airline ticket purchase, where as the price you see is the price youll pay.
Hotels can do just like airlines do, offer different fares.
Basic - would cover just hotel
Advanced - would cover breakfast and WIFI ETC.,
there are many more options. Some hotels do this already but INMO not on a large enough scale and on a technical level it's way easier for them to get this implemented then it takes for an airline to + there are so many ppl that would pay for all this.
