I called Avis and asked if they would status match my Hertz gold 5 star and she gave me her email address to send it to. I'll see what happens. Does anyone know if their status gets you anything as far as discounts on rentals? Also, I'm sure it's somewhere in this thread, as of now, what are the best discount codes for MIA?

By Monday, our system should have your Preferred number upgraded to Avis First status, which is the equivalent to the Hertz membership you were receiving. If you would like to apply for an AWD (Avis World Wide Discount) for your small business, you can do so by going to www.avis.com. once you have the AWD, I can link it to your wizard number,

I checked and it's not upgraded yet so I sent an email and will see what they say. This (if it actually worked) only took a few days.

if you'll nudge them to much, you'll loose out when doing it different ways!!

I reserve full size and I'm pc. I haven't gotten those z4's.....yet :-) I've never used state of Florida but a074800 is definitely safer.

So I made a reservation with Avis. using the above code I got a pretty good price for 2/21-25 - $204. That's just a little more than the 180+ I got from National. Recently I got the status match to Avis First. Now they send me a email that I get a weekend free because I became a First member! So they said they'll take off 2 days (not the taxes, etc. only the rental - around 36x2). NOW that makes it the cheapest for me. Plus the free upgrade, etc. So if you match, keep in mind you'll also get an immediate weekend free. I'll report back IYH when I return if things actually worked out - I'm usually a bit too pessimistic.

I'm flying in this Thursday to FLL and leaving on Tuesday am. Original plan was a Intermediate rsvp and have my Avis PC upgrade it. total was approx 270. This included a -30 coupon. This was made weeks ago.

Today I sat down to maybe do a one way from FLL to Miami beach with a drop off the next day, and pick up a car same time at Miami beach to keep for the reminder for the trip and return that to FLL. From smaller locations sometimes you get a good deal plus you don't have to pay for the airport fees and taxes per day. This after all said and done would save me an additional 20 total but wasn't sure if it was worth the shlepp to south beach on Friday just to make that swap,

End of the day I think I'm actually going to get picked up from FLL and just rent Friday from S Beach - FLL on Tuesday for a total of 185.75 for a standard which I hope they have an upgrade for me there.

Anyone have a Avis coupon that would help for a Friday 10am - Tues 10am rental?

I use AWD A442100 (its a deloitte code I beleive)
I use it all the time for about the past year, never got questioned and usually turns up the best rate

Okay, I'm back from Miami and reporting my experience. As I mentioned before, I just recently got matched to Avis First. With that came a free weekend. So I used Avis. Arriving at MIA, after the two day trek on the people mover to the train and then the train ride to the rental cars - whew! - I went down to where the cars were, spent 2 minutes at the window, chose whichever car I wanted from the group (not that many available, only 2 or 3, took the Rouge, and was off.
Returning the car I may have spent 15 seconds with the agent. As smooth as silk.
The bill, instead of 204 was 119 because of the free weekned. Keep in mind the taxes stay, just the car charges for two days disappears.
All in all a great experience. (And of course a great Purim in Miami Beach!)

That's great to hear. I may just use them again even if it's a few dollars more. Hassle free is worth a couple of dollars

Was in a local Avis today and according to the rep avis was clawing upgraded cars back from customers. One guy got a convertible they told him that either he brings it back to the airport or they are charging him an extra $600. Another guy had a Tahoe and they came to his house, told his wife that they are repossessing her car?! He claims this happens during spring break in Florida as they are desperate for premium cars....completely dishonorable.
