I would say someone's personality does play a role. But so does that of those around him IRL.
For example, in many parts of Lakewood/ Brooklyn, most are taking no precautions at all. So, even one who is more risk adverse, may make do with a mask.
Whereas, in parts of North Jersey, even outdoor minyanim with restrictions aren't always allowed. There, even one who is more of a "risk taker" might feel like they need 6-feet plus a mask at the ready, as apposed to always on.
