It is an extremely serious issue. Take a look around the forum, it's unfortunate.
This issue is known to cause alot of problems including serious shalom bayis issues

Here is a link to evaluate if someone has internet addiction.

Being an internet addict means not being able to stop and being obsessed throughout your day. Most people just spend too much time online which is a different kind of problem. One that should still be worked on. But different.

That test is grossly inaccurate, let's just say I scored lower than I expected. It also doesn't consider what other factors (besides for a potential addiction) there might be to your answers.

Its also horribly outdated. Many of those questions don't apply- treating being online as something tangible that you need to "log into". These days, the internet has been integrated into daily living, especially with smartphones and the like. No one runs to their computer to check their email before doing a chore. They pull out their phone when there is a notification.
Internet addiction is very real, but that site seems to be clueless as to what it actually is!

Whenever I travel out of the US I specifically don't take a smart phone or laptop so I get a break from technology.  And every summer I have two months in Israel where my access to internet is limited to borrowing a friends laptop for half hour if needed.  As much I enjoy technology and all the gadgets it's fun to get away from it all every once in a while. And as much as there are healthy ways to use technology it does cause many troubles (besides the obvious major things) and leaves everyone disconnected.

i agree with what you do, and i can say its very hard to do, but let me ask you then, how do you stay up to date with DDF?! :)
