Taliban fighters entered Kabul on Sunday and sought the unconditional surrender of the central government, officials said, as Afghans and foreigners alike raced for the exit, signaling the end of a 20-year Western experiment aimed at remaking Afghanistan.

The beleaguered Afghan government, meanwhile, hoped for an interim administration, but increasingly had few cards to play. Civilians fearing that the Taliban could reimpose the kind of brutal rule rushed to leave the country, lining up at cash machines to withdraw their life savings.

Helicopters buzzed overhead to evacuate personnel from the U.S. Embassy, while smoke rose near the compound as staff destroyed important documents. Several other Western missions also prepared to pull their people out.

Because (thanks to Biden giving them the NordStream2) they will soon control them without having to go to war.

For a president who’s worried about his legacy, this sounds like a missed opportunity. He could always have pulled them a year from now.  Besides, isn’t it all about undoing anything Trump committed to?

Afghanistan’s president left the country Sunday, joining his fellow citizens and foreigners in a stampede fleeing the advancing Taliban and signaling the end of a 20-year Western experiment aimed at remaking Afghanistan.

The Taliban entered the capital early Sunday and an official in the militant group said it would soon announce the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan from the presidential palace — a return rich in symbolism to the name of the country under the Taliban government ousted by U.S.-led forces after the 9/11 attacks.

Though the Taliban had promised a peaceful transition, the U.S. Embassy warned Americans late in the day to shelter in place and not try to get to the airport, where it said there were reports of gunfire. The embassy also suspended its own operations.

It's been discussed before that AR-15's and the like would do nothing to stop a tyranical Goverment if the US decided to go to war with it's own citizens.

BUT

I don't see how you can look at a 20 year was that some estimates say the US spent $2,000,000,000+ on and cost 2,400+ US soldiers, 3,800+ US contractors, 47,000+ Afghan civilians, and now the Taliban is back in control.

And all this with not much more than some AR 15's...

They sure seem to work to me.

( @CountValentine I know it's not Friday, but I had to go there...)

It's not AR 15's, it's the lack of leadership, you ever had a substitute in school how was it?

The military said this would happen if the US didn't leave behind a few thousand troops.
Both Trump and Biden didn't care.
I give you credit for seeing both sides.
This decision is on Biden since he made it but it is funny how the kool-aid drinkers forget what the last president wanted to do.

Exact same thing would have happened with any president. You wanted out know you got it. The question now is not if but when will be the next 911 attack or worse?

So if the Taliban had no guns the result would be the same?

But he didn’t. Trump is so 2020. This is on Biden and only Biden.
