There were reportedly conditions considered optimal for the operation that they were waiting for. The rescue almost went down a week earlier but was aborted due to conditions not being optimal.

Didnt see this discussed here, but yesterday there was a reporter on reshet beit discussing the hamas press conf response to the rescue op - where the spokes (trying to save face and say that Israel cant win Hamas) stated that these hostages were not held by hamas rather a civilian family...
The reported pointed out that THIS is basically evidence IL needs to take to the world to show that there really is an issue with the concept of Gazan "innocent" civilians, and how fine the line is

Yup I noticed this. The world doesn't give a hoot. They're happy to ignore any evidence of wrongdoing by Hamas and even happier to invent wrongdoings by Israel.

I agree with the notion of replacing unrwa. But the IDF's argument has given me pause: if the agency is disbanded immediately, the IDF will be responsible to feed millions of Gazans, creating significant logistical headaches.
