Yup.  Not to mention that vegan and vegetarian mean different things in different cultures.  In Japan, Buddhists are vegetarian but eat certain sea creatures that aren't kosher.

Kind of weird way of phrasing things:

Quote
There's also the need to have the vegetables checked for bugs, which are even more forbidden by the Torah than eating pork
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

"very wrong" assumption that vegan restaurants are kosher."

That's true, but the article is full of halachic inaccuracies.

He's Israeli.
Yeah, but I missed the fact that it's a direct quote, as for some reason that quote isn't enclosed in quotation marks.

Even for an Israeli, I think that would be a weird way to phrase it, I wouldn't phrase it like that in Hebrew.

Is it accurate? More forbidden than pork?
"LESS IS MORE" It is the cumulative effect that kills deals!!! How many times do I have to say this?  >:(

Accurate - no. If something is forbidden, can it be more or less forbidden? If one is driving 150mph in a 35mph zone, is that "more forbidden" than driving 50mph in the same place? The person driving 150mph might get more summonses (if police catches up with that person).

The fact is that eating bugs can constitute a greater number of transgressions than eating pork.

Accurate - no.
Let me ask it in a different way. Is it a more serious violation?

Arguably violating 5 issurim is more than 1. Don't get caught up in the Israeli lingo :)

To be fair, without Rabbi Weinfeld I don't know if there would be a DD today.

Aside from the big 3 that you need to sacrifice your life over or the prohibitions that made you liable a death penalty, it's hard to judge which prohibitions are more or less serious.

We do judge somewhat based upon consequence.

Even though current discussion is regarding prohibitions, rather than commandments, being the eve of יא ניסן brings to mind the following (which discusses that a Jew doesn't follow mitzvos because of any outcome):

http://www.chabad.org/therebbe/article_cdo/aid/3140489/jewish/-.htm

Just found the following English translation: https://therealshliach.blogspot.com/2008/04/complete-byom-ashtei-assar-5731.html or English video lesson available here.

The short version is that I really hated living in CH and got burned out in shuir daled of Zal in ULY.

I went home around Chanukah 2003 to open a smicha program in CLE under Rabbi Chaikin and had everything from guys to a dorm set up, but the local head shliach refused to allow it to proceed.

Rabbi Weinfeld was menahel at ULY at that point and he implored me to return after Pesach in 2004 and go on shlichus to Brazil, where I started the blog in November 2004. Longer version has a few Igros stories that also led me to Brazil and to eventually find my wife.

One of my favorites.
Spent several very enjoyable months delving deep into this maimor in LA with Rabbi Shapiro.
