United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

Unfortunately, the answer to both questions in yes. If you run into close-in fees, there are certain tricks....

-1

No. If you complete the spend 7 or more days before statement closes, it'll be on that statement and in your United account 24-48 after that.

If I call to change the closing date, how do I know that i won't have a longer statement period this month, instead of a shorter one?

You can ask the rep, but if it's relatively soon after the original closing date, it can be prolonged.

Is that based on experience, or just a guess?

IIRC it always ends up being longer. Has anyone had success shortening a statement date?

Experience. Happened to me once and it was really annoying.

Absolutely I probably did it some 5 times all on different cards! (All with Chase). I even explained them why I'm doing it, because I really have to book a vacation and I need those points....

Once I had a rep who told me she can't do it on this statement only on the next. I told her to check with supervisor and she came apologizing "Oh I didn't understand you"......
Another time a rep by mistake changed the due date for the next month! I called back and said that's not what I wanted, so they said sorry you can't change it for another 6 months! (As per chase rules). Back and forth I managed to move it back!
Ps if you need help just PM me.

So bottom line - is there any way to shorten the current statement, or any way altogether to get the points I'm waiting for, so I can book flights?

Cool!

What do you say? Do you specify that you want the current statement to close sooner rather than later?

How soon after you call can they have it close?

They'll tell you that it won't take effect until the following statement but IME that has (almost) never been the case. Definitely give it a few days from when you can in.

When I call I say exactly why I want it and I pick the date that I want the statement to close.

IME, attempting to shorten the time to the first statement has led to it being extended, shortening the time after the first statement worked.

I did it with Citi AA Platinum and had to wait an extra 2 billing cycles for my points to post
