United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

Needs to be purchased with the card

+1

I had a travel agent book an itinerary once for me, and the free bags showed up on the reservation just long enough for me to snap a screenshot of it. On the outbound flight, I showed my Club card at the counter and the agent bypassed the charge for me. Inbound, I wasn't so lucky. Nonetheless, that screenshot was perfect for dispute material. I put it on Amex, disputed it, and won.  :D

Be prepared with what makes you a great Chase customer: You've never had a late payment, you bank with them..
You're not asking for a big line of credit - you just want the great benefits of this card: no foreign exchange fees, free united baggage, building united points- double on united purchases..

First time I did not get free bags.  >:(
Card was not used for any of the fees just like all the other times. It might be because the card was applied for after the bookings.
On the return it was free bags with no agent intervention. I wonder what triggers this?

DDF is about give and take. Maybe you have an answer you'd like to share with us?

I once met this guy who knew nothing about the miles game. I found out I knew less than him.  ;)

Is it true that miles take 1-2 statements to hit my united account, and can't be expedited?
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Unfortunately, the answer to both questions in yes. If you run into close-in fees, there are certain tricks....

No. If you complete the spend 7 or more days before statement closes, it'll be on that statement and in your United account 24-48 after that.
Unfortunately, the answer to both questions in yes.

How many times? How long before statement closed did you complete the spend? Was your FFN in the app?

FYI my yearly club passes came in yesterday exp 7/31/16 even though my year-end is in august.

(Good for me bc taking a vaca during the overlap with last yr's passes that expire end of sept)
