Finally found some in ny and when i tried to use my amex it declines. Because it's a new card the Amex fraud department didn't allow the charge. I just used my ink and will have to speak to amex.

With the new limit directive from on high there's hope and reports of the $5000 being allowed.

Just Came out of a 7/11 near Bourgh Park where I tried to buy VR on 3 Cards (AMEX Platinum, Chase Freedom, Chase Southwest) and all were declined, called AMEX & Chase and they know nothing about these purchases.
Looks like they are programed not to take CC for VR

If you have access to a WM just get a vanilla GC for one dollar more than VR and save on gas running around looking for VR in NYC

VR cards are more useful to me than Vanilla GC. I can get GC at Staples.

That's a tough question. It depends on the value you give each point and the opportunity and time cost of acquiring them. If you are trying to hunt them down in NYC, I would say no way.

Nobody can answer that question for you. You need to assign a value to each point and compare that with the cost of acquiring them and decide for yourself.

$4 fee/ 504 points. .0079 or almost .8cpp. If you get more than 1 cpp value, then it's worth it financially, but is it worth your time and effort. You said it's easy for you to get them, so you're probably making a few bucks each transaction.
500 points @ .01 = $5. Less the $4 fee, you make $1 per card. At 10 cards, (the new cvs limit) that's $10 for the visit.
You probably get more than 1cpp value, so each visit is worth even more.
