I believe we are all also grossly overlooking a very key part to this trip.
There was a 28-day boat charter from Falklands > South Georgia > Antarctica > Falklands that cost $10K. Flights, room and board within the falklands for 7 days was $1400, although we could have gotten it for $900 if we had not used a booking company.
Haha yes, you need to love photography to be great at it. That statement is probably true for anything .
gotta stop focusing on the $125 cameras on DD, and start focusing on the $12,500 ones.
that is per person pricing I assume?
The kit I used in Antarctica cost $4K, but the majority of the photos you see here (at this resolution) could have been taken with a $1K kit. The extra money buys me resolution for printing big, speed (AF, settings adjustments), and consistency (it works every time). Ultimately the photographer still has to do the real work. Also, don't underestimate (or hide behind) your $125 camera: In many respects, it outperforms a $50K film camera from 15 years ago.
Care to share what's in your kit?
These photos are amazing! I've found I can take some beautiful pictures using the iPhone camera!Having said that, I am going on a nature trip soon, and want to take nice pictures but with the smallest camera I can find. Can you recommend one?
The iPhone can def take some great shots. If you have kids you should make sure to buy a camera with little lag. What are you looking to spend?
I guess less than $300. I bought the canon ELPH300 last year but impossible to take pictures of my daughter who wont sit still for a minute. I've always coveted the Canon S95 which is now going for over $500 probably it's no longer in production and all subsequent models aren't as good.I want something I won't feel in my pocket, with a long zoom and good for scenery and kids.
I'll put together a post with travel details this weekend, but for now I wanted to share a photography-gear-focused post (which might be a bit unusual for this forum).
