having trouble adding on additional guest with certificate booking. main customer service will not do it. each one tells me only wa to add name is through gifting which can not be done on cert. Additionally front desk wouldnt add  another name on due to it being a point booking they said it has to be added on durung original reservation and they can not add on afterwards. How we go about this? and no i didnt say im gifting i told them my wife is arriving earlier than me. I keep having this issue lately. any ideas? thanks

Might be YMMV based on property. No other way to do it than what you've outlined above. I have never had a problem adding a 2nd guest to the reservation by calling the front desk but it seems like recent DPs have identified a few hotels who will not do it.

       point bookings is fine cause youre allowed to gift so it can be done in the original booking

Can you add 2nd guest by original Point reservation, and keep it on your account not as gift?

gifting is just their term they use. it will still be under your account and you should get the nights for it as well.. in terms of adding a second name best is always to book the room with 2 guest staying in there.. otherwise they sometimes will cancel and rebook with a 2 guest occupancy to add the second name.. YMMV for that.. in terms of adding a name to the cert, I had that issue when adding after booking.. but when booking the first time with Customer Care- they added the name no problem...

You cannot add a second guest to an existing certificate reservation you need to do it when you make the original reservation.

My recent experience (about a month ago) I called and asked to make a reservation with my certificate with an additional guest and was told I can't do that so I huca and the next rep did it np but asked if I will be there at time of checkin because otherwise the guest may not be able to checkin and I said sure. The additional guest was on the reservation confirmation and afaik had no problems checking in.

I (believe I) had a guest’s name added to a cert booking at time of reservation this week (Residence Inn Surfside) and they called me at the hotel saying she was not on the booking and she had to be added through reservations. When I called in they said they didn’t see the name and couldn’t add her to the booking after the fact, I escalated to a supervisor and she cancelled and rebooked with the guest’s name added. However she made a point of asking if I was coming and even asked what time I would be arriving. I’d guess they are starting to crack down on these, as this is the first time I’ve ever had issues. Guest was made to wait half an hour in the lobby while I waited on hold.. not fun.


OTOH, I made a cash booking with a guest checking in as secondary with no issues this week as well.

Based on this and @S209's data point, it seems this is only a prominent issue for Miami hotels who might be cracking down on it. The other guy that was having trouble a few weeks ago was also trying for a Miami hotel.
