Would it have been different if you were flying the same product both ways?

That depends on whatever my initial view was of a "great routing."

At this stage in the game, I pretty much know all the ideal routings, such that I couldn't really be "surprised" by a routing someone came up with weeks before departure.

FWIW IME GA F has great availability for at least 2 passengers. It just requires a quick trip down to a GA office and a bunch of Citi TY points.

See prior post; it's not award availability or TY, I have more than enough for both :)

It's logistics.

GA F isn't feasible from a routing perspective. Same issue with MU. No huge interest in flying CZ.
Why not do GA F AMS-CGK, then do the United or Singapore award down to Australia?

FYI FWIW 180k RT in TYP NRT-DPS is not worth it... I checked random dates in F RT paid ticket. Its $2,159

those points alone are worth $2,340

Interesting. I've only searched that route one way, and I found the cheapest was $3800, which made me think it wasn't a bad value using TY points at 4cpp.

Interestingly enough, the reverse, CGK-NRT-CGK, well, actually DPS-NRT-DPS (google flights can't find CGK-NRT-CGK on GA F  ???), is almost 3x the price.

While I'd like nothing more than to do that route, I'm not sure I could stomach nearly 400K for GA F...

Now, perhaps I could do something like this:

JFK-LAX in J on AA 321T (cannot choose F because of the next segment)
LAX-NRT in J on JL 777
NRT-CGK in F on GA 777
CGK-MEL/SYD on ???

And then the same return in EY F...

That's *very* interesting to me because it's all available right now.

If you're looking nonstop CGK-NRT in GA F, it doesn't exist. AFAIK they only fly F on 3.5 routes. NRT-DPS, CGK-JED, CGK-AMS-LGW and occasional I think they fly that via SIN, so CGK-SIN-AMS-LGW instead.

Looks great! I just wonder if their ground service in NRT is as personal as in DPS ;)

That does look like an interesting routing.

Grrr, more research reveals that $2159 fare is only available like in the next month or two. And at that cheap, I'd pay $$.

It spikes to 7k end of 2016 when I'd need it, though :(

JED-CGK? Odd. Any idea what GA charges for that award?

Am I crazy to consider...

Do I need a visa just to transit?

Of course not crazy! Happy I could spark a conversation about an airline we'd all love to read a review on

I don't know if you'd even be allowed to connect in JED. But otherwise it's not crazy from a routing perspective.

Why you say so? You can even visit JED if you'd like, assuming you get approved for a Visa.

Have you ever looked into that before? FWIU it's impossible for Jews.

Yes I have, and you are incorrect.
