Delta announces massive Alaska route expansion including JFK-ANC "weekend" service, whatever that means:

https://news.delta.com/alaska-awaits-delta-adds-new-routes-more-flights-five-outdoor-destinations-summer

Seems that the only lie-flat seats will be on ATL-ANC, which is unfortunate. JFK-ANC is a good seven hours...

JFK-ANC "weekend" service, whatever that means:

Fri/Sat only. JFK-ANC will not be useful either day, ANC-JFK Motzei Shabbos might be able to be used some weeks? It leaves 10:25pm, and Shabbos in Anchorage is over later many weeks in summer.

Ugh.

Eastern also has a direct, but Fri/Sat only as well.

At least we have UA this summer.

Hopefully all this added capacity will be helpful for pricing and availability though. I have a busy Alaska summer in the works :P.

Eastern can actually work for JFK-ANC, they are scheduling a "reverse" red-eye. Leaving JFK at 11:00pm Thursday night and arriving ANC 3:15am Friday morning - which in summer time should be somewhat light outside.

Way back would land on Shabbos.

I found flights to ANC from NYC for 12k miles on Delta, even though only FAI is advertised.

But, DH will only travel if there are minyanim.  Does the Chabad have weekday minyanim?  Anybody thinking to go end of July / beginning of Aug?  Have access to a sefer torah but need men...

Chabad typically only has Shabbos minyanim, and maybe Sunday morning if enough visitors push for it. Visitors usually don't base themselves in ANC where the Chabad is, coming there primarily for Shabbos, and there aren't enough locals to support it. I was there in 2014, so things may have changed a little, but unless you're bringing in a large group of your own, you should not expect to have a weekday minyan there.

Additionally, the Rabbi told me last month that they are planning to be extremely strict this summer even with Shabbos visitors, only allowing fully vaccinated to daven with them, and possibly even requiring a PCR late in the week. The exact details aren't yet set in stone, but if you're not into vaccinations and testing and masking, you should not count on being allowed to daven with them at all.

Confirmed they don't have weekday minyan, and their website is pretty clear about vaccine / PCR test requirement... that plus I can't find a single available car for rent makes this seems like a dream that will have to be fulfilled another year...

Planning on going to Fairbanks in July (didn’t have 10K prices to ANC). Any recommendations for things to do there?

I am doing the same (although the tickets I got are getting there very late Sunday night and leaving 2pm Thursday)

One piece of advice don't try to do everything. The first time I went I probably tried doing too much.

I am planning a four day trip end of July.

I would like to do Matanuska Glacier one day
Another day I would like to do a boat tour either to Kenai Fjords out of Seward or Prince William sound out of Whittier. It sounds like PWS has more Glaciers and Seward has more wildlife? Any opinions here which is preferable and also any recommendations for tour companies?
Any suggestions for the other two days. (I don't want to do Denali as it is far, I have no desire to sit on a bus for six hours and I was there once and wasn't that impressed. I would do a flightseeing tour if I could find a good deal).
I would love to see the Bears fishing at Brook Falls or Lake Clark but I can't find anything less than $850 a person and I don't want to spend that. Any cheaper ways to do that?
Any good sources for discounts on activities?

TIA
