Topic Wiki

Since October 12, 2015, the prepaid REDcard (Redbird) can only be loaded at Target with cash. It can still be loaded online with a bank-issued debit card, up to $200/day and $1K/month.

Therefore, for MS (manufactured spending) Redbird is now considered dead. RIP!

No need to change your address.
I assumed he was referring to paying credit card bills which (I think) are not paper checks sent out, but rather a electronic transfer. Also, are you saying he is also wrong about needing the same address in order to withdraw to my bank account?

How do the addresses have to match, when you can pay any body's bill regardless of address?
I was referring to credit card bills.

You can pay anyone's credit card bill with your redcard. As far as withdrawing to a bank, I would assume only your name needs to match though I can't tell you from experience.

Are you saying this from experience? Have you or someone you know had trouble paying off a credit card bill or withdrawing to a bank account because the address did not match?

IME withdrawing to a bank account with different address didn't work. In regards to cc, I never tried it, but IIRC there were reports upthread about them giving issues. If not, then I apologize for the misinformation.

As far as the 1099 tax event for $20K+200 transactions: Does the 200 include purchases made through other locations/sites with the RC? Like if you're using the RC for getting 5x points everywhere via ink.

Yes Yes Yes. Let me sum it up for you. You WILL get a 1099 even for 1 load with this, and the IRS WILL Audit you.  It's not worth your time.  THe only reason everyone here does it is because everyone works for the IRS and has connections to avoid audits.

I read the Wiki before posting, thanks. Also have read up a lot on this before, and never saw that addressed, so asked.

You are correct about what I meant with the 5x on RC. Why the wow? I'll admit, I'm not well versed in the CC game, and though I've read up on a lot of things over the past couple of months since I started, I still have a lot to learn. Aside from missing out on pure MS bonus (I'm not 100% comfortable with MS, so like to actually spend most of the spent $$ if possible), what's wrong with doing it that way?

The question has been asked a million times, throughout this thread. A quick search would have pulled up your answer.

What's addressed that I saw (when reading the wiki, including the double and triple checks today after your statements that it's addressed, as well as the reading of 300+ pages in the thread when I was starting a couple of months ago, and in the search I just did to check) was about tallying the LOADS onto the RC for your transactions, and if it's a big deal. My question is if SPENDING from the card counts. May be a basic and stupid question for you guys who have been in this game for years, but for me, much of this is still new. I'm just trying to learn and do things right.

Also, any response on the other question of RC for general charging?

You should prob try asking your "beginners questions"  in the questions for beginners thread...

why not put the charging of other stuff on your regular credit card? Why go the extra step of loading the rc if your using it for charging. Just pay for stuff with the vgc and don't waste your time.

Is there a way to get money from PayPal to my redcard account? Being that redcard really just is a bank account could I link them?
