Yup, in Istanbul, I was in a call-shop (a place you go to call international for cheap) and the guy tried to charge $20/min, so basically 1000x the advertised price.
He was arguing about the 000 which would often not be written as the money had a very little value back then (I paid $125 or 88,000,000 for an IST-TLV a week later).
I wasn't about to let go, so I said I'm going to the cops. This guy came along and was screaming his head off, and everyone in the street joined the parade. I was sure we would be lynched by the mob.
Somehow, I wasn't in the giving up mode, and as I've later realized by the cops (who said I was right), that this mob was actually supportive of me, as this shop owner was Kurdish, so they were excited someone didn't put up with his business practices.
