Another trick to get it within 24hrs is to make the reservation for alter and pickup earlier. As long as there are cars on the lot, you won't have an issue.

I just did this for a one way BOS-EWR last minute with a free day when my flight was cancelled this evening. I actually made it for tomorrow but they let me take it tonight.

If it's not prepaid or a points booking, and you haven't put down a credit card, they won't penalize you in any way

YMMV but I made someone a reservation last week at MIA landing close to 1 and he was successful in picking up a car at national.

I feel like an era has come to a close. Most of my longstanding corporate codes have died (still hanging on to one lesser known one), all of my old coupon codes are dead, having filled their allotment. Have had a very, very hard time finding new coupon codes.

Even having issues using the aisle... for some reason DFW isn't indicating that I can book the executive area. What a sad day.

Not true. Their website and app is junk. As long as you book midsize and up (sometimes higher classes are cheaper), no matter what the website or app says you can access the Emerald or Executive Aisle (depending on status).

Is there any way to still get free EE status through a CC or status match? (I have Hertz presidential via Cap Venture X)

Never heard of "lifetime" status, don't think it exists with car rentals (besides for Hertz not actually downgrading status a big percentage of the time).
