Been doing this for a while, closing the vents in a not regularly used part of my home, seems that it doesn't do anything positive

Should increase airflow to other rooms but is that a positive?
Let's remember that AC does not add cold air but removes heat from it.

I was trying to increase the air flow. Wouldn’t that make the other rooms cooler quicker and conserve energy? But googling it it sounds like the air gets lost elsewhere.
Also sounds like it can mess up the system.

This is exactly what zoning does. Depending on how large an area you're closing off, then it can be detrimental. Zoning systems (Arzel) get around that issue by actually controlling the blower speed. Others (Honeywell, Carrier) will recommend using a "bypass" solution.

They are systems that work in tandem with your HVAC & are usually installed by your local HVAC contractor. The trick is knowing to ask for it.

Zoning is great, but you also need to address the return issue.

Anyone ever had maintenance done (either DIY or by a pro) on mini split units - beyond cleaning the regular filters? Some of my units have this uneven and louder than usual noise that increases with higher fan speeds. Kinda sounds like the wind blowing unevenly outside. I'm assuming the blower is very dirty on those units, but not sure whether I want to attempt cleaning it myself.
