So if you're gonna shlepp the family with you anyway, let it be a nice place that the wife and kids will enjoy too. I understand it's more of a shclepp when it's farther, but I think if it's gonna be a Shabbaton with the wife and kids it just makes more sense to be near something nice.

They know most people come for the vacation and don't buy but if 10 - 15 couples do it together is can be a a little bit of an issue

Just some other ideas: Atlantic City (Plenty of non gambling family activities in the area), Lake George (Mostly mom & Pop hotels though), There is a catagory 3 SPG across the street from Sesame Place in Langhorne, PA if most people have small kids.

the Sheraton in edison is very nice and their very accomidating for shabbosim. we had a family simcha there for shabbos and it was really really nice.... and the management was used to the whole idea as theyve done it many times...
and the rooms were really nice- dont know y its such a low category hotel..
Just adding my 2 cents in... although niagra so sounds a whole lot better@

if we are already there, I think I can get the four seasons in Toronto for $105 a night, or what about the PH in TOR

I'm not such a fan of the PH YYZ. How's the Four Seasons?

Westin Harbour Castle can be fun-all the visiting baseball teams stay there! Just moved up from a cat. 3 to a cat. 4 though.

iv'e never been to the FS just saw that my dad gets it REALLY cheap on his corporate rate which is officially allowed to be used for family leisure travel.

Toronto is nice, but will families enjoy Niagara Falls or downtown Toronto better? And is worth the extra ~90 minutes of driving to Toronto?

I still think something in the Poconos would probably be the best bet, it's not too far a drive from NYC and you don't have the "why not jersey" factor...

Is there a SPG property in the Poconos? The mahla of jersey is there are plenty of nice SPG's around to keep it affordable, if you have to pay for two nights & bigger family's have to book two rooms plus food its going to be expensive!

Valid point. I don't know of any SPG in the Poconos.
