Try Barkan Classics. Great QPR (Quality Price Ratio). Merlot Argaman is a favorite of mine. Anybody concurs? :)

so i hear,
What would you call your favorite?
(i'm comparing this to Mt. Veeder, clone6, generation 8, Yatir Forest, Chalk hill etc. and i find it superior, but if you like earthy frenchy wines or spicyer Spanish wines you wouldn't consider this the best)

I still prefer forest over any of the others mentioned and then gen 8 would be 2nd.  Id put oakville in the next group with clone 6 and chalk hill.  I personally didnt love mt veeder.
Of those not mentioned that off the top of my head Id put ahead of oakville would be castel grand vin, katzrin, elrom, ortal/avital slopes syrah, and hagafen prix melange
at the same level as oakville Id put ella valley vineyards choice, avnei choshen diamond, recanati special reserve.
I am sure I am leaving out some others as well.

Either way any of these wines are excellent and cant argue with anyone naming one of these as their favorite.

Yatir forest reserve 2009 can't beet it
except by the 03 and 06 forest? I think its a little early to really tell where the 09 falls in comparison with other vintages.  I think Id also take a katzrin over forest

we clearly have different tastes, of the wines listed above i would rate them, oakville, forest, veeder, gen 8,elrom, clone 6, chalk hill avnei choshen diamond, castel, katzrin. Never had ortal/avital slopes syrah, and hagafen prix melange and i didn't particularly like The Recanti SR or the Ella Valley VC... but i certainly agree that these are all amazing wines!

I was there beginning of July and really liked the Meritage (not sure if they only have it there) and the Eagles Landing. The Eagles Landing i believe is the "personal" line by the vintner. You can also sign up for the wine club which will get you some exclusive bottles.

ETA: On their top tier of the wine club, one of the bottles  in the next shipment is a ~5x month aged wine which you can only get as part of the club...

How much do they go for? And can you only sign up for the club at the Winery?

At the winery, if you are or become a member, you can get an additional 30% off + 10% at the restaurant. I think you can call up the winery and join over the phone.
I paid ~$55 for the two bottles (Meritage and Eagles Landing). When you sign up for the club, they charge you when they ship the bottles. I think the top tier was $115 for (4) "high end" bottles every quarter. You can cancel whenever you want.

Best wine selection in Manhattan AFAIK is on 86th between Broadway and West End. They carry Dalton too.

Another vote for the Barkan Reserve Pinotage (was it 2005?)- dry, yet not too heavy, with hints of exotic flavors uncommon in a dry red.

Best all around is Herzog Zinfandel- and strangely enough I like the cheaper one more than the reserve...

A friend bought me a bottle of katzrin. Right before I opened it I realized its an 08 which was a shmitah year in Israel. Am I allowed to drink it in America?
