The families are also demanding to know how it happened.
Nobody’s blaming the victims.
There are many other properties with the same issues so the discussion needs to be had.
From the looks of things they’re unfortunately going to remain buried there for quite some time.

From a secular point of view it makes sense to look at all of the potential contributing factors and remediate them in other structures. It’s not contradictory to say that even given those factors there’s no “aha, no wonder it collapsed” moment, and those same factors may likely be present in many other structures that haven’t collapsed. Call it a 500 year event, call it really bad luck, or some butterfly effect type of dynamic resulting from the exact distribution of heavy furniture and occupants in the building or something (of course we would call it yad Hashem), something acted on all of those factors and brought the structure down, but replicating those factors does not equal an expectation of collapse. It would not surprise me at all if a number of buildings have all or most of those factors, perhaps to a more severe degree than Champlain and are still standing strong.

In today’s day and age people are too impatient and curious. It’s also human nature to try and make sense of things, and to feel safe in other structures.

I haven’t watched the pressers but if I had to guess the people speaking are officials/politicians, and the experts are focusing on their work

If you want to theorize about a glaring error in the construction of the building that hasn’t occurred elsewhere I hear that. But if you want to go with a confluence of common building problems where Champlain just happened to be a top scorer in every category with the predictable result being an inevitable collapse

As with all catastrophic failures, it's a confluence of circumstances. There's never one fail-safe.

A flawed design and 40 years of subpar maintenance, and an added penthouse level, and a heavy load on the roof for repairs, and an asymmetrical design, and a leaking pool, and corroded rebar, and a cracked foundation, and damaging construction next door...
