I am sure that "some" did, but I was heavily involved at the time and to say that it was dismissed by the matirim is categorically false. I had personally presented volumes of scientific evidence about it to many who you are referring to as matirim. Any impression being given that it was dismissed without a careful consideration of the metzius is simply untrue from my first hand experience.

I can't answer for your account, but I personally discussed it with people who were part of that discussion who said they brought numerous scientific papers to discuss many aspects of this and R Moshe said that it was a waste for him to see it since it doesn't change the halacha.

Either way, this is guaranteed to be an endless discussion as it has been for about 13 years since I did all this research.

Because at that point it was a general lifecycle discussion which directly contradicted the Talmud. That’s is different than a direct discussion about a specific creature with empirical evidence. That’s no different than other similar discussions in the achronim.
