Priority on amazing ambiance with good food=Reserve Cut
Priority on amazing food with good ambiance=Mike's Bistro

I'm not a big restaurant guy (I appreciate good food, I just don't go out that often) and am looking to take my wife out for her 30th Birthday. What restaurant would be my best bet for food and ambiance (quiet and romantic very important), don't mind expensive as long as it's top of the line. I'm not sure that I'm specifically looking for something in Manhattan, I live in Lakewood and am looking for up to about 1.5 hour drive. All opinions will be greatly appreciated :)

In order to fill up by Mike's Bistro - it will be quite expensive

Whenever I get ravioli, I fill up by mopping up the sauce with whatever bread is provided. If the sauce is really good it's worth it.

Is that how Ravioli is meant to be eaten? Somehow it doesn't sound right...

This ought to fill 2 people:

Duck Gnocchi: $22
Ravioli Bolognese: $22
2 shorts ribs: $108
Fries: $8
Fondue dessert:$20
=$180+tax/tip

Can add 2 soups to be certain.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Was at Reserve Cut with a group last night. I was very impressed by the ambience, food and service. It was my first time there. In my head they are now a notch above Mike's.

The wagyu boneless ribeye was 11/10. One of my best steaks ever.
Short rib tacos 11/10 (didn't have, but it sounded like it from the others)
Mushroom soup 10/10
Rainbow roll 10/10
Fries 10/10
Beef jerky 10/10
Molten cake 11/10
Beef sliders 9/10

Ambience 11/10
Service 11/10
Food 10/10 overall.

I'm Glad you enjoyed it
I bounced for the Wagyu Prime Rib
and was much happier with the standard Prime Rib.

Kind of the opposite actually. What they did is they sold off (or maybe rented) the back area with waiter service to Bedford (it's called Bedford on Park), and restructured the front to allow for a hallway straight to the back. The result is no waiter service, and less seating in the takeout style front. The food is the same though - they don't appear to have cut the menu or anything.

I enjoyed ordering from them during the delivery.com promo for $13 off $15, their portions were always generous and food was good for the most part.

Yup they closed a few weeks ago. Took a blow to my delivery.com options.

So odd. So if you want to go to BoP you have to walk through Mendy's? Sounds fancy!

Basically, you walk through the door into short hallway that's mostly decorated for Bedford. When you walk in, staring straight ahead you see this:

But before that, on the left side, there's an entryway for Mendy's. They had curtains that were held open - I assume at night they leave them closed.

So it's more like having to file through business class an econ+ to get to cattle-class?
