Great TR. Want to read more!

 :(
I thought the same, but realized I want to go to Ubud.

This is the place I'm serious about right now.

Not sure I would trust one of these places without reviews

Also, if Avodah Zarah bothers you, Ubud is basically one big one.

Looks beautiful, but I love using points whenever possible, all else equal.

Almost no point options in Ubud (Westin opens next year), and with 3 adults, 3 kids, a hotel wouldn't cut it w/o at least 2 rooms.
But a villa w/ a cook (gotta find a way to utilize that), private pool, stunning views, and an on-call driver is a very tempting option.

Darn. We're looking to go between when the Hyatt closes and when the Westin opens. We'd like to spend a night or two in an Aman, but then, that's why we want the remainder on points :P

Ubud Hanging Gardens or one of the Chedi properties can often be had on Jetsetters etc for a good price.

This place should be quite cool:http://www.sinnivillas.com/index.php

ETA: Ah darn:

When will it be completed?
Estimated completion between March / April 2015.

That seriously looks like one of the coolest hotels, both literally and figuratively that I've ever seen. Almost makes me want to go somewhere else this time around and wait until 2015 when this opens...

If you are ponying up for one Aman anywhere, and are open to going to the Phillipines, go for Amanpulo. There is nothing as beautiful anywhere IMHO

Think of it as 50k SPG per night :)

We were toying with Boracay and/or Palawan...

When you say beautiful, I know you must be talking about the resort, but geographically as well?

Geographically. Beaches are unreal.

Never been to BOB, but yes, prettier than MLE.

Also the Island is quite big so you have a ton of privacy and space to yourself on the beach.

I know at least one other DDF'er was there but not sure that he wants to chime in

Thanks everyone for all the feedback.

On Wednesday we took a side trip to an island called Nusa Lembongan. If you take one side trip from Bali this is the one to take. Getting there takes about 30 minutes in a speed boat which leaves from Sanur. As there is no harbor you have to wade in the water until you get onto the boat. A baby made that pretty interesting. As this is the only way to get to the island there were porters loading our boat with suitcases etc. for those spending a few days there. The island itself is so peaceful that they still don't have any cars on the island. People get around by foot or bike, except for the rare pickup truck used for transferring tourists. All the locals dress in their traditional costumes and the women walk around with baskets on their heads. The only sounds you hear besides for people are roosters and the ocean.

When we first arrived on the island we went to an area called the mangrove forest. There we paid a local guy 20 dollars to take us drift snorkeling, while our nanny waited on shore with our baby. Drift snorkeling is snorkeling in an area with strong currents so you don't have to swim. Instead you go shooting in the current and the boat follows you. The water was warm and crystal clear and we felt like we were in an aquarium. We spent the rest of the day at Mushroom beach, which had great swimming (no currents) before taking the boat back.

On Thursday we checked out of the Hyatt and our driver took us to east Bali to a town called Tulamben. The drive up to Tulamben is very scenic and there were many rice paddies along the way. We also passed many cool ceremonies while we were driving. There is a very cool shipwreck in Tulamben and I finished my diving course on the wreck while my wife hung out with our baby. Getting my scuba license was something I always wanted to do and it was really worth it. When I was done our driver took us to Ubud where we spent the next few days.

Ubud is high up in the mountains and it's all about the Balinese culture and scenery. There are many rice paddies all over the place, along with many hotels and villas. The weather in Bali was very nice, clear skies during our whole trip with no humidity, but in the mountains it was a bit cooler. Probably around 80 degrees or so. At night till around ten pm there was some sort of temple ceremony going on and there was music and these odd sounds blaring through the countryside. We stayed in a private villa for 380 for 3 nights with our own private pool.     https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/620260
