Not many people are able to achieve TR in such a short amount of time.

Maybe its from the contribution of people in this thread, that showed the way ;)

If you sell a few types of products that are new then it's not so hard to become TR in just a few months...

True, a few other simple requirements,

My point is, that most people that start selling on eBay, dont know what to do, and usually end up causing some damage that delay them from getting TRS quickly

If your products are new and you ship fast then your in good shape unless you get some buyers that are jerks.

got an offer to sell my ebay listed product off ebay to avoid fees, and he will pay with paypal. i asked (via text) if he would send via bank instead of credit card, thinking that will minimize the possibility of dispute. he responded "fees will be the same and i can still file dispute even with bank account." i thought based on what i read earlier in this thread that he can't. can he? should i insist on non-credit card? thanks

He could dispute either way.

If you do the transaction off eBay, make sure the shipping address is a confirmed address, and that you are eligible for Paypal seller protection

He could dispute either way.

But could the buyer win? Especially without having eBay on his side?

Depends what the dispute is

You typically are safer on eBay

There could be a few types of disputes.

Charge-back of an authorized payment, for this Paypal will cover you

For item not as described, then you will have to work it out the buyer, he will have to ship the item back to you, but if he's trying to scam you and sends you back an empty box, it'll will be a pain to fight, and its up to the paypal dispute to how they will handle it. (With eBay, if you file a police report, eBay will probably take the loss)

If he claims he never got an empty box, its a pain to fight, usually buyer wins.

It all depends on what they guy is trying to do, the buyer has the upper hand, and if knows what he's doing he'll win.

There is something missing here.

Did he ask for a discount?
Or did he just wanna save you the fees?
If the latter, then it is a bit fishy why he would want to lose out on his protection, and I would stay away.

If I had to guess he probably offered to split it somewhere in the middle ::)

yea, that.

@namechanged: thanks for your help.

he claims to be a iphone bulk buyer, and he has all positive reviews on ebay as a buyer, 100+ in last 12 months. I'm leaning towards doing it, but just curious if there are any other ways to arrange. is ups/fedex C.O.D. is a good option (not sure if buyer will be too annoyed anyway), or amazon payments or any other service that offers some protection protection? or is paypal the best way to go here, even if its obviously still somewhat risky?

If he buys all the time, and has good feedback, then I wouldn't worry

Besides, you might be better off selling to him instead of a random buyer that could make more issues.
