$75 fee:

-21+ days prior to departure is based on the departing city time zone, not the booking city time zone.

EDIT: I managed to call in and have them waive the fee when it was within 21 days in departing city time zone but not by booking city time zone

UPDATE: AA has removed all close-in fees

No. AA and BA both call it the same. J is J, F is F on both.

Search for F, not Y and it'll show you F, J, and Y+.

On a separate note -  I have AMM- SYD currently as an award- I plan on booking an australia to nz flight, nz to ppt, and ppt back to the states as well, all probably on AA partners. I'm not 100% sure of the dates or routing of the middle flights - is there an advantage of booking this all under one award (is that even possible?) as a bunch of separate legs? Would that allow me to change the routing of the middle legs without change fees, or am I no better off than just booking as separate itineraries?

Total trip will probably be something like:
AMM-AUH-SYD EY
SYD-CNS QF
CNS-SYD-CHC QF
AKL-PPT TN
PPT-LAX TN

Just FYI you can use AA miles to book NZ metal that's TN codeshare for AKL-PPT

Very interesting. I was researching that a couple days ago and couldn't find an answer. The TN flight gets in late and would require a PPt overnight which I would like to avoid.

Thanks HEH for the info!

For a YYZ-JFK-AUH-MLE//MLE-AUH-JFK-YYZ itinerary, would dropping either the YYZ-JFK or JFK-YYZ segment trigger (i) a change fee or (ii) award repricing (post-AArmageddon)? I understood from VFTW's write up that dropping the last segment will not trigger a reprice, but (i) what about a change fee and (ii) what about the first segment?

Dropping that last segment isn't hard. Just don't get on the plane. You'll have to collect your bags for US immigration anyway.

Not if arriving on EY with pre-clearance, though should be easy enough to ask them not to interline the bag to Toronto. Also, the YYZ leg would likely be to/from LGA in which case I could definitely no-show on the final leg.

I forgot about pre-clearence, but just get a flight from LGA as you said and you're set. You can even change the flight from JFK to LGA and it won't count as a city change.
