Topic Wiki

There are no Credit Cards that will cover Liability.
Visa, Amex, MasterCard and Discover will cover Loss Damage Waiver / Collision (CDW/LDW)

Cards that cover CDW/LDW in Israel:
Chase: Sapphire Preferred ($95 annual fee)
American Express Gold $195AF
Discover (accepted in Israel as Diners' Club): More, Open Road, Miles, Motiva (none have annual fees)   Policy link

You must present at the time of rental a copy of your policy or a document from the CC company stating that the insurance coverage applies to Israel . You will still have to purchase 3rd Party Liability, but you will save some shekels and have no deductible for damages.

Visa phone number : 800-VISA-911

Visa does NOT cover:
  • Cadillac Escalade
  • Mercedes GL series (they do cover GLK)
  • Mercedes E class
  • Corvettes
  • Camaro ZL1

AMEX premium will charge $24.95 per rental and they cover:
  • Up to $100K for damage or theft and accidental death or dismemberment coverage ($250,000 for California residents), up to $15,000 for excess medical expenses per person, and up to $5,000 for excess personal property coverage ($15,000 for Florida residents)
  • Any car from Mercedes, pickup trucks, Porsche and 15 passenger vans.
  • There's no need to pay for the full amount with money, even if it's with points or coupon rental and you pay just $2 fees they will still cover you.

Those that do NOT have a credit card insurance, here is an alternative:  https://worldwideinsure.org.

If CDP and PC are used when I  reserve a rental car on hertz.com, is CDP (and/or PC) considered as coupons?????
yes. But the difference is that after those discounts/coupons(cdp/pc), u still pay for the car(a cheaper rate). What dan was talking about is a free day coupon I assume.
Always use an Amex, you'll thank me one day.

Or anything that takes $ off the actual rental rate. Not just LOWERS the rate

Cheeeeese.
My friend's story has an happy ending!
Another friend advised him to call up Customer Service to find a clueless rep, and try to get words that its covered. His friend called up and asked how about he has a 1 day reward from Avis, but he still pays taxes and fees with his Amex card, will amex cover it? The rep answered "as long you pay even $1 with your card, you're covered....
Then he called up the claims case manager, and said, listen, I called CSR and that's what they told me, I even called them back today and they said the same... She said she'll listen to the recordings, and the next day she called back informing him that amex will cover the damage!
Love me or hate me. I still love you.

He messed up.
Always, always, always, give in those coupons after you safely return the car.
Otherwise leave it all on the cc.

How can you leave it on the CC? When you rent say from Hertz using a free day you have to book using the free day e-coupon, or at least that's what I thought

Its only a coupon number, so if c"vsh something happens, when you return the car make sure to tell them to take out the coupon code then they will charge you full price.

But they ask for the initial contract as well...

In the initial contract it still says the full price for the car and it just deducts the amount of the base rate, it dosent say all over its a free rental.
Besides the initial contract is just a estimate of charges, I believe it goes by what you actually paid

From my experience, it can be an issue if it starts as a free day even if you remove the pc for the free day at the end.
That's actually one of the reasons they require the initial contract.
The best option I know of (NOT CONFIRMED) is the amex car rental insurance, it's about $25 per rental period and has to be setup in advance. It's said to cover free days as well, although I've never tried it.

Getting back to this question, when you use a free day coupon how to make sure your credit card covers it, i once called mastercard and they said that if you have two days rental and one is a free day they will cover, so you could reserve for two days, one day being paid, return after one day if no problem and if there is an accident keep it for the second.

Visa told me the same. You don't even need an extra day, an extra hour will suffice as well.

as least for mc need a full day, unless you mean that after an hour they will charge you for the day
If a rental company promotion/discount
of any kind is initially applied toward payment of the rental vehicle, at least one (1) full day of
rental must be billed to your covered card

From past experience you can't have any coupon on your initial  rental that will deduct from the rental rate (ex. Free day, $25 off etc). If you get a cheaper rate with a CDP that's fine. Its not worth the headache. Just put the coupon on after and if they don't let. Call CS and tell them the reason you didn't put it on in the beginning. They usually will honor it.

i was just parking and i rear ended a car. the only thing that happened to his car was the license plate border came half way out and actual plate got dented. My car on the other hand got a nice few scratches on the corner and a little dent.

Does visa or amex cover collision (cdw) for a Mercedes E class?

In general is there a list for visa (signature) or amex that tells u what covers what?
