Unless you hold like r' Moshe that is not true however when the oven turns on you are not allowed to have food in it leaving you with no reason to do that
So you say the same as me just explained?

Timer would be to have it turn off after the meal, not to turn it on. The only scenario where you'd potentially want to turn it on would be Yom Tov, where you can put food in.

In practice yes but in actual halacha you missed the point
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

The difference between you and a timer is that you are intelligent (to some degree) and we are also not allowed to have someone do it FOR us. The timer is dumb and doesn't do anything FOR any reason, it just does what it was set up to do.

That being said, under certain circumstances it may be allowed but those are some of the more complex laws of Shabbat.
Can one add or remove pins from a timer on shabbos ?  Would that be nore like the kosher switch ?

Can we just clarify something here -- why in the world does one need a Kosher Switch???

Thank G-d, I can afford the electricity bill to run my lights for the whole Shabbos, or I could just use timers if I really want to. The "side" reason that they propose - stops you from accidentally turning on a light - cannot seriously be worth the debate over this whole thing. So what's the deal? Why do people even want this?

To make things easier.

Like all other loopholes.   Hey, CM, do you know that it's forbidden to carry any objects on shabbos in places that don't have an eruv surrounding them?  So the loophole for that is that people make tie clips out of their key so they wear it around all day instead of carrying it in their pocket.  I thought you'd like that one...

What is easier than just LEAVING YOUR LIGHTS ON??? With the Kosher Switch, you now need to actually turn your lights off when you leave the room and turn them back on when you walk back in. All that unnecessary flipping!!!

So on a normal day you just leave the lights on all the time? You like watching TV with all the lights on? I am assuming there is a kosher TV.

Ever forgot to turn your bedroom light off before shabbos?

I actually prefer TV with the lights on. :P
Normally, yes, people are used to flipping lights on an off, but what I think you're missing is that Jews for 20-30-50 years have gotten used to not going near switches 1 day a week. So to now tell people they can flip a switch on Shabbos is going against their "normal" tendencies. I just don't see what the whole hullabaloo is.

Ever forgot to turn your bedroom light off before shabbos?
That's a good example of when this would be useful, but it's definitely not something that I'm like OH NO, I WISH I HAD A KOSHER SWITCH.

You obviously never left your kid's bedroom light on by accident...

1. You forgot to turn it on/off before Shabbos.
2. It accidentally gets turned on/off on Shabbos.
3. Your timer is set incorrectly.
4. You left a light on/off but subsequently changed your mind.
5. You unexpectedly receive a guest on Shabbos but the lights in the guest bathroom are off.
6. Can you think of any other scenarios?
If you don't care why would you comment?
