So, what's going on in MI?

A strain they haven't identified yet?

I don't know. They're on par with the rest of the country for vaccinations, but they account for over 10% of all US cases over the last week. Truthfully, I expected the whole country to look like MI right now. It doesn't, which is why I'm posting in this thread.

(I didn't scrutinize but the replies indicate this is a mistake and Ohio actually has similar testing rates)

Close, but they're about 5-10% lower than the national metrics you posted.

Here's where the top 10 most populous states are holding (vaccines administered per 100k residents):

CA - 57.6k
FL - 55.4k
TX - 51.6k
NY - 62k
PA - 59k
IL - 58.1k
OH - 55.3k
GA - 44k
NC - 53.8k
MI - 55k

NY is way ahead, GA is way behind. Other than that, MI is average. It definitely shouldn't be a factor in their current case count anomaly.

Is it perhaps affecting the black community disproportionally - apparently the community is very vaccine hesitant because of their distrust of the medical establishment?

ETA: Wayne County (Detroit) has a higher rate of vaccination than the rest of the state, so looks like my guess is wrong.

It's totally normal for it to surge in the different states at different times, based on the unseen super spreader event etc. trigger.
States that luck out and don't have a surge now, might not get them altogether, because the vaccines might outrun them by when they would've started.

Republicans are more vaccine hesitant than blacks

Sure, will likely surpass it this year. But more focused on leisure rather than business.

Could new treatment massively reduce dangers of the coronavirus?
New research at Hebrew University and Mount Sinai suggests that common drug could make coronavirus no more dangerous than the common cold.

This is making headlines again a year later.

I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

70% effective against the original strain of COVID-19... What about D614G, Alpha, Delta variants?

Is it effective against the virus, or against the infection brought about by the disease? If the latter, does the strain matter? @biobook
