This is classic Israeli Socialism/Bolshevism/Protectionism at work. Some local trade organization got a legal ban on imported pitted dates. There's so much of this nonsense going on in Israel (for example only the Israeli formula for Ketchup can be called Ketchup, so Heinz can't be sold as Ketchup in Israel, it needs to be called something else) that contributes to higher cost of living. There are efforts to deregulate or adopt EU regulations so that anything approved by the EU is automatically approved in Israel. But the various trade lobbies have strong influence on politicians in a Socialist/Bolshevik country.

Just saying, the ban is only on "Ketchup" in ivrit, not in English. Also, the KLP version last Pesach fits whatever arbitrary rules the board of whatever decided ketchup has to be, and therefore even said Ketchup in ivrit.

No. Some African country likely sold them to Iran. Someone knows that the current admin is going to turn a blind eye to Iran evading sanctions and will also not punish the perpetrator. This is 4th or 5th plane in the last few months.
