For those who want to churn and/or want to get the bonus without paying the annual fee: Wait until the A/F gets charged, pay it off with the rest of the bill, and the sign-up bonus will post (at the end of that billing cycle). Then call to close the account and ask to be refunded. They can't charge an A/F for a card you aren't using. You will not lose the miles once they are in your US Airways account.

It seems that if after you use the card you just let it sit unused for a couple months, they will then email you with a targeted offer for 15,000 more points for spending $750 a month for three months.

Hadn't HUCA'd since Mon (applied Sun) and just tried again and got approved  :)
Application was for the 40k version. Do I wait for my card to come before asking to be matched to 50k?

Call today. Matching might go dead (same that happened to the 70k ink)
I try my best :-\

Not sure if it's the same. The 70k ink had an AF 1st year which made it a different product.
Doesn't this card always have the AF ?

Right, but OTOH Barclays doesn't have any official matching policy.

Done. Success! (in a manner of speaking... apparently the recon rep who approved me today actually automatically approved me for the 50k offer even though I applied for the 40k)

Called to get matched. I didn't even have to say what I was calling for. As soon as the rep. heard the word bonus, he said 'I'll make the adjustment' and gave me a case number.

Rep said they had meeting about it today and anyone who applied after Nov. 1 will be getting an additional 10k added after $1 spend and annual fee paid. Before I even finished my sentence with the request to be matched he was already telling me this.

Good to know. My rep also didn't wait for me to finish, but didn't elaborate.

We shmoozed about it a bit because when I called earlier today I was told I would have to spend $1k to get matched. He explained to me that that was an old offer from back in May and this is the one they have now.
