Is this something that might interest anyone here?

I may be interested- though I'm located in Lakewood. What other records do you have?

Did the Rebbe write haskamos for seforim, and if yes, was it rare or common?

No.

Lubavitcher Rebbes did not give haskomos. (I seem to have a vague recollection that there was one exception in history, but it might be my imagination).
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

No.

Are they called something else? I recall seeing some. First example on Google:

Isn't a haskama when someone is asked to give haskama? Not something taken out of a personal letter?

I think some people understand Haskama to be any letter saying it's a good work.

There's of course a whole history of how they came about and evolved but generally it seems any letter extolling the work would count to many people nowadays as a "haskama".

Did people take what the Rebbe wrote about someone's work as a haskama, and if yes, was it rare or common?
FTFY.

I don't think this was a practice amongst chassidim, what other people did or didn't do I couldn't say.

חומש ש"י למורא prints the Rebbe's letter to him. But he wouldn't dare call it הסכמה. Especially since he seems to disregard what the Rebbe writes about partial ניקוד.

Interesting. The question was based on a sefer that has one haskama (from R' Moshe), but in the hakdama the mechaber thanks the Rebbe for encouraging him to write/print the sefer. Sounds like that's understandable.

So they took his haskama without his haskama?

Apparently that is the definition of haskama nowadays.

The fact that this is a real concern means that there continues to be a level of hatred to Chabad...It is the fact that this reality exists which is the problem.

Till now all he heard was brachos...can anyone confirm if this maysa is indeed with the baal hatanya?
