after shofar
Also why R"H is the only non-fast day where Lubavitchers won't eat mezonos before davening.

Why is eating before shofar stricter than eating before davening? It should be the other way around.

מצוות עשה דאורייתא. We also don't eat before קריאת שמע של שחרית.

And there are people who eat before Shofar (for health reasons - especially if expected to spend time in the 770 washing machine).
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Mezonos?

Sure. But I haven't heard of Hamotzie (though the Hayom Yom source for eating before davening was about Hamotzie).

I recall a letter writer lamenting that yeshivos in his circles had learned from Chabad and bochurim were eating before davening. "On Rosh Hashana, instead of saying 'שערי שמים פתח' they are saying 'שערי המטבח פתח'".

And regarding taking naps, some Lubavitchers won't nap on Shabbos either.

Interesting, never heard of that before.

Also never heard of that. Link?

IYKYK, but otherwise frog dissection lab available here: https://derher.org/wp-content/uploads/76-Teves-5779-Alter-Rebbe-and-napoleon.pdf

Also of note, every Chabad shul sings and dances to Napoleon's march before the final shofar blow: https://www.chabad.org/multimedia/music_cdo/aid/140700/jewish/Napoleons-March.htm

Once it gets to health issues, risk of passing out, do you think a Dr. would say to avoid eating?

Read the Hayom Yom. There's no mention of mezonos there. It was definitely about Hamotzie. If you don't take my word for it, ask around.

No, but I'd imagine there are non-mezonos/hamotzi options that would accomplish the same and would be less problematic?

Source? If it was about Hamotzi then why is there mezonos faren davenen and not hamotzi faren davenen in every yeshiva?

Not really understanding the Lubavitch position on when and what to eat, but I don’t think there is ever a difference between mezonos and hamotze in regards to these halachos.

And Tefillin is not a מצוות עשה דאורייתא? Anyway, you're conflating two separate issues, eating before a מצוה is only a problem when one eats a כביצה, while eating before davening is prohibited entirely.
