LOL

With Afghan solders "When curious locals came too close, Mohammed would use a bullhorn to tell them to go away."

I can you use the loudspeaker in the police car and do the same thing.  :)

Tell you what. You go to Afghanistan and try it out. Let us know how that goes, and then we can decide whether to crap on this guy's effort or not.

Have you read anything I said? The guy went on 100+ missions. He deserves to get out. No need to embellish a story at the very least.

That is exactly why they did it and embellished on the story.
It is like saying I go with a ride-around with police and then claim I helped with the arrest.
He helped on 100+ missions and should be evacuated but no more than anyone else that did what he did.

Umm, this was one of those 100+ missions. His role does not need to be with a gun to have been an active participant. If the intended role for him was to direct traffic then so be it. That was his position as an interpreter.

And no need to downplay what he may have done there. If people here were talking about an American soldier the way you've been talking about this guy, you'd be raging about how they are a bunch of disgusting, disrespectful, and ungrateful traitors, showing their true colors.

I am not downplaying anything. No need to embellish to make the point he needs to be evacuated.

This is the issue. I am talking about all the reporting on the story, not him personally. AFAIK he never said he helped save Biden.

If the US ends up going back in, does it still count as the war having ended?
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

It counts to be taken out back and shot.

Exhibit A: Front page on msn.com and the first paragraph.

An Afghan man who had saved US President Joe Biden in 2008, then a senator, when he was stranded in a remote Afghan valley after a snowstorm, is seeking his help to flee Afghanistan which is now under the Taliban rule.

https://www.reuters.com/world/exclusive-call-before-afghan-collapse-biden-pressed-ghani-change-perception-2021-08-31/

In much of the call, Biden focused on what he called the Afghan government’s “perception” problem. “I need not tell you the perception around the world and in parts of Afghanistan, I believe, is that things are not going well in terms of the fight against the Taliban,” Biden said. “And there is a need, whether it is true or not, there is a need to project a different picture.”

My first thought was:
Meh, if I wanted to tell someone they needed to shape up without offending them this is probably what I would say.

But then I thought:
When you're the POTUS and millions of lives are at stake, sometimes you need to be blunt and harsh.

He seems to have done anything but that. Biden seems to have been all about perception-almost as if he were Trump.
Quote
Biden told Ghani that if Afghanistan’s prominent political figures were to give a press conference together, backing a new military strategy, “that will change perception, and that will change an awful lot I think.”

The American leader’s words indicated he didn’t anticipate the massive insurrection and collapse to come 23 days later. “We are going to continue to fight hard, diplomatically, politically, economically, to make sure your government not only survives, but is sustained and grows,” said Biden.

“I’m not a military guy, so I’m not telling you what a plan should precisely look like, you’re going to get not only more help, but you’re going to get a perception that is going to change …,” Biden said.

All I think he's saying to Ghani is that if he wants folks to support him, he should project himself as a capable guy.

It's a conversation about Ghani's perception not Biden's.
