Think of Moving?

Airports:
  • CLE is about 15 minutes from downtown and 25-30 minutes from the Jewish community.  It's a focus city for Frontier, Spirit, and United.
  • The RTA (Rapid transit train) at Brookpark station has free parking and is just 1 train stop (3 minutes) to the stop inside the airport. The train costs $2.50 and the schedule is here: http://www.riderta.com/routes/redline/schedules/current#WestboundWeekday
An uber from Brookpark station to CLE is about $10.
  • Uber between the Jewish community and CLE is about $30.
  • CLE off-site parking is about $9/day, on-site parking is $17-$22/day, and curbside valet parking is $35/day.

  • The nicest hotel in Cleveland is like the Ritz-Carlton downtown. Marriott's Metropolitan at The 9 is also highly regarded, with a bar in an old vault. There is also a Hilton, Westin, and Kimpton downtown.

Transportation:
  • There is a subway/light rail connecting the airport with downtown, University Circle (where the Case campus and many museums are) and the Jewish community area, but renting a car is pretty much required unless you are just going between the airport and downtown.

Hang out near a clinic at end of day in case they have leftovers. (This is a serious suggestion.)
Not much luck with that from what I hear. Most places either have a list they call if there are extras, or refuse to give to anyone without an appointment

I've heard of people who got on such a list, because they had a previous association with them.  Some hospital or clinic was keeping a list of "their patients" - not necessarily those currently in the hospital, but those who had once been there, and were "in the system".  Then, when doses were available, those people were called and told that if they could get there in 15 minutes, they'd get vaccinated.  So if the person has such a relationship with some hospital, they might ask if they keep such a list.

Another thing I heard was some places that use volunteers at the vaccination site, to help check in people, show them where to park, keep an eye on things, etc, and at the end of the day, they offer left over vaccine to the volunteers.  They know that many of the volunteers will stop showing up the day after they get the vaccine, but they say there are others to take their place, and they need the help of volunteers, so they see it as a win-win situation.

I can't remember where I read about these, but I guess the thing to do would be to find out where vaccines are being given near you (health clinics? schools?), and contact each place to ask about these possibilities.

Do you have any elderly relatives (or friends) that you can be a caregiver for? Caregivers aren't eligible in Ohio but they are in PA

That's an idea. Does it require any sort of documentation?

Yes ;), follow the link in this article.

Look for the checkbox that allows you to self-attest that you are an unpaid caregiver for an elderly individual or a person with a disability.

Clicking the check box opens a link entitled “View Letter”. This letter is from DHS Secretary Teresa Miller verifying the status as an unpaid family caregiver.

Please print this letter and take it to a vaccination site. This will allow you the proof you need to get a COVID vaccination in this phase.
