Overall sounds like a good idea.
Although I sometimes like having DDF as my new source but not having to get involved in all the politics.

It would be very hard to maintain a news only thread without conversations splitting off.

Perhaps just have one Twitter account that has news and pots the links here etc.

Yes but only if there is a way to the keep politics out of it. I personally avoid the politics board like the plague and would not want to mix that with news discussion.

From what I've seen, subboards rarely get used very much.
But I'm open to the idea if there's a compelling rationale.

A. Let's gets a new forum software, B. Definitely shouldn't be mixed together with politics directly. Would be nice to have the option for notifications for new news stories and not get a notification for each new thing trump said or did.

Seems to me that if you do not want aggressive mods yelling at everyone for misposts, the only option left is a board taht already covers all the bases.
As seems clear from the war discussion, it was impossible to separate news from discussion.
I agree it would be nice to have a place just for current events articles (not op-eds, just news), and for all discussion to be elsewhere. But if the mods won't do that (and why should they?), it seems like it makes sense just to combine them.
Agav, it gets news entirely out of JS (and randomly GD), which is a plus, especially to Netfree users.

For me splitting up the forum to too many boards makes it less convenient to use.

The politics board made sense since there are people who specifically want to avoid any politics, but I don't think it makes sense to make a whole new board for News.

Which means combining news and politics also defeats that purpose of a separate politics board.

There are threads that do a good job of self-policing. Yes, the mods have to step in now and then but not very often.
